For artists, social media can be a world of opportunity. Utilizing social media for artists can provide artists with a platform to share their work and reach audiences across the world. But it can also provide distraction, discouragement, and become a waste of time.
How can I find a creative friend?
Go to an art opening and talk to the artists. Go to improv and comedy acts and talk to the performers you liked. Look for groups that meet up for drawing/sewing/dancing/reading/writing. Check out the bulletin boards at local coffee shops, art supply stores, and book stores for those types of events.
As with most things in life, it takes a consistent effort in order to achieve any meaningful results. To me, the main reasons why artists fail with social media is that they are not providing a value to their connections with any helpful, interesting and relevant content in their comments and posts.
